Day 24 - my running rollercoaster

How come when I start my runs I have such a hard time getting going? I start running and I can't seem to get any momentum until about 2 miles into my run. I do admit I'm a bit tiered some mornings when I start running but I don't think it would take 10 mins of stretching and 2 miles to get going. Then I run the next 2 miles pretty easy and with an extra pep in my step. Of course when I'm nearing the end of my run it seems a bit hard again as it's the mental thing that pops up when you know you are almost done your run and just want to get there. Not to mention the last part of my run everyday is up a hill, so I have to keep the momentum and speed running up hill is not always an easy task.
So I wonder, how will my endurance stand up in a 26 mile run? I'm sure I'll have some parts that will be easy and some hard, some when I'm ready to just fly and other times when I just want to give up! I wonder what my marathon rollercoaster will be like? I know I will never really know what to expect on D-day but all I can do is make sure I train everyday, stick to my training plan and hopefully the 6 months of hard work leading up to the marathon carry me through the day.
Today's stats: 4 miles, 6.44km in 38:37, avg pace 5:60/km burned 571 cal - oh look at that, I beat my time again!! woo hoo!! - I guess there is something positive that comes out from it being that TIME of the month! :) Ladies you know what I mean!

  1. Laura, your body is the most sophisticated and complex molecular structure on the planet. This is where the pro runners are seperated from the new. Experience runners listen to their bodies. It is a fact that no matter what distance you are running, there is a warm up in the beginning of your run and a cool down at the end of your run. That is for a reason. After you stretch your body still has to start slow, whether you like it or not, to warm the muscles so they won't pull or worse twist a ligament. Also, every ounce of your body parts has to develope a rythem to work in zinc with one another. Think about what you are making your body do. The less sleep you get the longer you will find yourself running to warm up. Without you knowing it, your body knows that all the muscles, ligaments and bones have to work in unity. Oneness of whole working in harmony with all the parts.
Thus it is imparative that you read your body signals. Your body is saying, listen Laura, give me a little time, say one or two kilometers to warmup if you are doing 6 km. and we will really enjoy the mid 2 km. as we coast along and then let me slow a bit for the last 2 km. so I can cool my muscles down so they gradually stop excessive stretching and smoothly go back into the normal state for my daily walking. Thus, you allow me to not pull a muscle or undully stretch or twist a ligament so I can perform even better for you tomorrow and especially be prepared to work even harder for you in the longer runs when the time comes. Not to mention all this without one INJURY.
God bless, Honey, Love you, Dad
